After the October Revolution and the Russian Civil War, because of outbreaks of anthrax and cholera in the Ural and Volga Regions, there was
an urgent need for medical staff. In 1933, due to the Resolution of the Soviets, the Izhevsk State Medical Institute was established.
The medical scientist Vasily Parin was one of its founders.
In August 1933, 171 students were enrolled in the first year of the General Medicine Department of the institute. In 1938, the first graduation
of doctors took place, and most of them were sent to work in the medical organizations of Udmurtia. In the years of the Great Patriotic War,

The Kazan State Medical University (KSMU) is a federal university located primarily in Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia. It is composed of nine faculties. The university obtained its license on March 6, 1994, from the State Committee of the Russian Federation of Higher Education. Kazan State Medical University is a state institution of higher learning in medicine that operates under self-governance and is part of the Higher Education and Scientific Research system of the Ministry of Health of Russia. The university was granted license number 16 G-235 on March 6, 1994, by the state. In addition to Kazan State Medical University, there are also a pharmaceutical college and two medical colleges
Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University
Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University was founded in 1952. On 22 February 2012 Izhevsk State Technical University celebrated its 60th anniversary and was named after Mikhail Kalashnikov, a legendary designer of small arms and Honorary Professor of ISTU. More than 12,000 students, including 275 international, study at 3 faculties and 7 institutes of the university. The university accepts students in mechanical and instrumentation engineering, civil and power engineering, housing and utility infrastructure, information science and computer engineering, natural sciences, economics, architecture, design, and humanities for bachelor degree – in 39 programs, for master degree – in 31 programs, for specialist diploma programs
